Senior Professionals
Dale Colling,
Founder and Managing Partner, based in Shanghai. Dale’s
background includes 30 years of business experience in
China, including extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions
and joint ventures, both as an advisor and principal. Among
other things, Dale was a founder and served as Chairman of
HuaMei Telecommunications Company, a Sino-US joint venture with
the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the top level
Committee of Science and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND),
which installed the first full service broad band network in the
world in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province of China. Dale has
excellent connections with senior China officials and extensive
experience in the major commercial geographical areas in China.
Prior to 1988, he was a partner at the international law firm
Mayer Brown (formerly Mayer, Brown & Platt) specializing in
business law, mergers and acquisitions, and international
transactions.
Dale holds a B.A. (highest honors, Phi Beta Kappa) from the
University of Michigan and a J.D. (cum laude) from Harvard Law
School. He is the author of numerous articles on business
matters.
Dean Ho,
Partner, based in Shanghai. Dean began business in China in
1981. He was a member of advisory teams that formed 39 China
joint ventures. Among these were Eaton Automotive (Shanghai
Eaton Valve), Donnelly Corporation (Donnelly Automotive Trim),
Cooper Power Systems (PDS Edison Power Systems), Xerox (Shanghai
Xerox), and Tenneco Automotive (Monroe Shock Absorbers). He has
also assumed direct management in operations that included
aluminum extrusions, fabrications, building construction,
construction management, export product inspections, factory
evaluations, and SME business start-ups. Dean is an independent
board member of A-S China Plumbing Products Ltd., a
manufacturing and distribution subsidiary of American Standard
Companies Inc. with seven businesses in China, and
member of its
Audit Committee.
Dean has been an active member of the American Chamber of
Commerce in Shanghai, serving as the Chairman of the
Manufacturers Business Council from 1995 to 1997, Secretary in
1998, Chairman of its Board of Governors in 1999 and currently
Chairman of its Ethics Committee. He participates in briefings
to American Chamber of Commerce focus groups, companies,
government agencies, and the US Congress.
Dean holds a B.S. from Cornell University, a B.A. from
University of California at Berkeley, and attended the Advanced
Management Program of Harvard Business School.
Jiuguang Song,
Partner, based in Shanghai. Jiuguang has substantial experience
in a wide array of industries where he focuses on market
intelligence, strategic planning, business development, and
strategic sourcing. Prior to joining ALC, Jiuguang held senior
management positions with Brooks Communications, Sprint, and
IBM. He was a senior research fellow with Stanford University’s
Center for International Security and Cooperation and the
Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which is responsible for
guiding central government decision-making and policy.
Jiuguang’s research focused on international trade, technology
transfer, and industrialization policy.
Jiuguang holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Changchun
Institute of Optical and Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s
Degree in Law from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
David Chandler,
Partner, based in London. David assists with the European
operations of ALC. Most recently, he was a Director of Höegh
Capital Partners Advisors Ltd., an investment advisory firm
where he was responsible for its private equity fund of funds
activity, as the firm’s finance director and as a Partner in its
investment advisory business to Gemini Oil & Gas Limited, a
private equity fund. He is a past Managing Director at Bank of
America, where he led syndicated debt finance (EMEA) for company
acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, and international project
financings.
David is a qualified Solicitor and holds an MBA from London
Business School.
Lisa Colling,
Partner and General Counsel. Lisa has over 25 years
experience as an international business lawyer. She has
acted as legal counsel in connection with numerous
transactions in China, including joint ventures, forming
Chinese entities, acquisitions, licensing arrangements,
employment matters, and intellectual property matters. Lisa
has worked extensively with Chinese law firms. Previously,
Lisa was a partner at Mayer Brown (formerly Mayer, Brown &
Platt) representing many Fortune 500 companies and major
financial institutions.
Lisa holds a B.A. (class salutatorian, summa cum laude, Phi
Beta Kappa) from Princeton University and a J.D. from
Harvard Law School.
